“Quite frankly, the conduct of the President’s legal team has been a national embarrassment.”
(Chris Christie, former Republican Governor of New Jersey)
As all the efforts of Trump have failed to win the presidency, Trump is now playing cheap tactics. He is in pursuit of blocking the election certifications process, which has started in many states.
Every county of the country has to issue election certifications to give electoral college votes to the winning candidate. After this certification, electors meet up in their respective states to choose the president.
The Trump campaign has filed lawsuits in several battleground states to slow down the certification process. They are accusing Democrats of voter fraud in these battleground states. However, election officials claim that the 2020 election was the most secure in US history.
Legal efforts are being made to stop the statewide certification process. These lawsuits are the last chance of the president as, after that, he will have no other options to overturn Joe Biden’s victory.
How is Trump trying to stop the election certification process? Can he overturn Joe Biden’s victory by doing this? Let’s have a look.
Trump hits below the belt: Trump attempts to stop statewide certification
President Trump knows that once the election board certifies the election, he can’t get any constitutional help. Hence, he will have to leave the White House.
Therefore, he is playing his last card now in an attempt to block the statewide certification of the electoral votes.
Republicans around the country are busy helping the president to get another four-year term.
In Wayne County, Michigan, two Republican election board members previously refused to certify the results on baseless claims of election fraud.
Trump is shocked as Michigan certifies Biden as the winner, wasting all Trump’s efforts.
In return, the president tweeted in their favor terming them brave and praised them. Many Republicans think that non-Republican board members are rushing to certify the results.
However, this is a false claim, as non-Republicans are taking enough time to maintain the credibility of the elections.
The remaining swing states are all set to certify their results by Friday. Hence, after that, the results will be fully certified.
Apart from these lawsuits, Trump is also destroying the United States in every cap acity.
Trump bites the dust in Georgia
Trump has also started playing dirty tactics in Georgia. Georgia had already certified the election results last Friday. The state has also done a recount on the orders of the Secretary, as the vote gap was just 0.26 percent.
Biden has taken the state away even in the recount. Yet, Trump has asked for a second recount, based on the winning gap of only 0.26%, delaying the process even further. It is evident that Trump wants to delay the results just to satisfy his ego.
The president’s close advisors believe that by delaying election certifications, Trump can win another presidential term.
They suggest that Republican-controlled state legislatures will get a chance to select different electors either by overturning Joe Biden’s victory or by sending the contest to the House, where Trump could get a chance to win.
This option was also ruled out last Friday when Trump called Michigan legislatures in the White House and asked them to delay the certification process.
The legislatures told the President that this couldn’t happen, as there was no substantial evidence proving that the election result is controversial.
Pennsylvania and Nevada putting the last nail in Trump’s coffin
The highest number of lawsuits were filed in the state of Pennsylvania after the November 3 elections. Pennsylvania and Nevada have just pushed the final nail into Trump’s coffin. Both Pennsylvania and Nevada have certified their results for Biden.
Similarly, North Carolina has certified results in favor of Trump. Trump’s campaign was extremely active in both of these states. They wanted to get these states by hook or by crook. However, the second term for Trump is just a pipe dream now, with the election certification of Pennsylvania and Nevada.
All of this happened because the Trump campaign did not provide reasonable evidence to the court.
“If you have got the evidence of fraud, present it. They allege fraud outside the courtroom, but when they go inside the courtroom, they don’t plead fraud, and they don’t argue fraud.”
Irony just died a thousand deaths: Trump’s attempt to capture Minnesota
Everyone thought that Republicans would only play dirty tactics in the battleground states. However, the situation got worse as they tried to block election certification in Minnesota.
Trump knew that they were not even in competition in Minnesota, yet his campaign filed a lawsuit Tuesday morning. With this lawsuit, he aimed at blocking state certification. However, the sane minds in the Minnesota state canvassing board declared Biden as winner unopposed.
As Republicans did not find any reasonable grounds to file a lawsuit, three Republicans, including Steve Drazkowski, Tim Miller, and Jeremy Munson, accused the Minnesota Secretary of State of circumventing the laws.
They claimed that the Secretary of State of Minnesota, Steve Simon, altered election laws that deal with absentee ballots. Republicans believe that Democrats rigged absentee ballots to win the state.
This is a state of utter shame for Republican lawyers who are just trying to file lawsuits for the sake of it. Despite knowing that they are being pushed into the dead-end tunnel, they are filing these lawsuits again and again.
However, the Supreme Court of Minnesota did not stop the election certification, paving the way for Democrats.
The case of Minnesota was different from others in the sense that Biden won by over 233,000 votes. Considering the voting history in the state and the US overall, overturning this much bigger lead is next to impossible.
Republicans Advise Trump to concede
President Donald Trump is facing pressure from other Republicans to stop his baseless fight and accept Biden’s victory.
Even now, however, Republican leadership in Washington is standing behind Trump in his propaganda of voter fraud. Many other prominent Republican figures are now condemning the behavior of the President to refuse to concede the election.
The former National Security Advisor of President Donald Trump has said that Joe Biden will be sworn into office on January 20. Yet the real question is how much damage the sitting president can do before that.
HR McMaster, a former National Security Advisor to President Trump, has said that such efforts are undermining American democracy. The former New Jersey Governor termed Trump’s legal team as a “national embarrassment.”
Maryland’s governor, a prominent Republican, also showed embarrassment that the party leadership lacks the courage to accept the results.
“If you are unwilling to come forward and present the evidence, it must mean the evidence doesn’t exist… The country is what has to matter the most. As much as I’m a strong Republican and I love my party, it’s the country that has to come first.”
Despite the consistent failure in making the election controversial, President Donald Trump is still reluctant to accept Joe Biden’s victory.
Many swing states are all set to certify their election results by late November or early December. The President is currently busy trying to stop the statewide certification process from confirming the American verdict. Unfortunately, all these efforts for Trump are failing. Soon after the certification process, Trump will be left with nothing but to announce the 2024 campaign as a face-saving act.
